A Highland Landmark on the Way Up
Ramboda Falls is one of the most recognisable waterfalls in the central highlands, tumbling around 109 metres in tiers beside the A5 road near Pussellawa, on the climb up to Nuwara Eliya. Fed by tributaries of the Kotmale Oya, it's an effortless and rewarding stop on the journey through tea country.
Easy to See
- A famous hotel and viewpoint look directly onto the main falls — you can admire them over a meal or tea.
- A short walk leads closer to parts of the cascade.
- A temple near the base adds to the scenic stop.
- The falls are actually a combination of upper and lower sections.
Best Time to Visit
Ramboda is fullest after the rains (October–January), when it becomes a powerful multi-strand cascade. The drier months still offer a lovely view with gentler flow. Morning light is best before the highland mist.
Tips
- The roadside viewpoints are easy and safe; a short trail offers a closer look.
- Combine with Devon and St. Clair's Falls for a classic tea-country waterfall route.
