Where the Huluganga River Tumbles Down
Huluganga Falls is a lovely cascade in the foothills of the Knuckles Range, near Panwila in the Kandy district. Fed by the Huluganga ("sandy river"), it makes an easy and refreshing nature stop for travellers heading into the Knuckles from Kandy.
What to Expect
- A scenic waterfall set among green, forested hills
- A short approach with a viewpoint over the cascade
- Cool foothill scenery on the doorstep of the Knuckles
- A quieter alternative to the busy roadside falls
Getting There & Tips
- Reached from Kandy via the Wattegama/Panwila road toward the Knuckles.
- Wear shoes with grip; paths can be slippery near the water.
- Watch for leeches after rain in the Knuckles foothills.
- Combine with a Knuckles day trip or Sera Ella.
Best Time to Visit
Huluganga flows strongly after the rains, while the drier months (January–April) make trails easier and skies clearer. Mornings are best.
