A Cascade Best Met by Train
Galboda Falls is a graceful waterfall tucked into the jungle near Watawala, between Hatton and Ginigathena in the heart of tea country. It's especially loved because it can be glimpsed from the famous hill-country railway — a magical surprise for passengers on one of the world's most scenic train rides.
What to Expect
- A tall, slender cascade dropping through dense green forest
- A short walk from the Galboda railway station area to reach a closer view
- Classic misty tea-country scenery
- A peaceful, off-the-tour-bus atmosphere
Getting There & Tips
- Many visitors combine it with the Kandy–Ella scenic train, alighting near Watawala/Galboda.
- The path to the base can be slippery — wear good shoes.
- Check train times carefully if you plan to hop off and on.
Best Time to Visit
Galboda is fullest after the rains (October–January) and looks dreamy in the highland mist. The drier months make the approach easier. Mornings give the best light.
